Buddhists will never accept Gujarat law on religion: SC/ST body
New Delhi, Sep 20 (UNI) The All India Confederation of Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes Organisation today said it would oppose tooth and nail the law passed by the Gujarat Assembly clubbing Buddhists and Jains with Hindus.
It appealed to President APJ Abdul Kalam and Prime Minister Manmohan singh to ensure that the Bill does not become law.
The Buddhists and Jains will never accept this situation, said Chairman of the Confederation and president of the Indian Justice Party Udit Raj.
''It is highly arbitrary on the part of the Gujarat Government to convert the religious identity of a community through the Bill. It would be left to the community itself to decide their religious identity,'' he said in a statement here.
He said the All India Christian Council and the Confederation were going to hold a Religious freedon Day on October 14 at Nagpur at which they would discuss the issue threadbare.
