Bihar doctors to cease work for 24 hours

Patna, Sep 20(UNI) Doctors will go on a 24-hour strike, beginning at 12 midnight today demanding rescue of their collegue Radhika Raman Prasad, who was kidnapped on September 17.

This was decided at an executive committee meeting of Bihar branch of Indian Medical Association(IMA) held this evening on expiry of the 48 hour ultimatum issued to government earlier asking the authorities to rescue the kidnapped doctor by 1400 today.

Briefing mediapersons, secretary of Bihar branch of IMA, Dr Sachchidanand Kumar, said the members of the executive committee expressed concern over the failure of the government to provide security to the medical fraternity and anguish over the recent abduction, the doctors of Ara and Darbhanga districts were currently abstaining from duties in hospitals and clinics.

'' All doctors employed in government medical colleges and hospitals as well as those in private nursing homes would boycott their workplaces for 24 hours from 12 midnight today thus bringing the entire healthcare system to a standstill'',he deeclared.

Emergency services in hospitals would also not function during the period of ceasework by doctors, he stated.
