Auto drivers 'gherao' KMC to protest bad roads in Kolhapur

Kolhapur, Sep 20 (UNI) The owners and drivers of the autorickshaw with their vehicles today gheraoed the Kolhapur Municipal Corporation (KMC) building to protest against the bad roads in the city.

The agitation, led by veteran leader Rambhau Thorwade, was called by the Autorickshaw Sangharsh Committee and Transport Action Committee last midnight. It demanded to undertake immediate road repair works, as the roads were damaged due to heavy rains.

After the general body meeting, Mayor Sai Kharade and Commissioner Kunal Kumar met the agitating autorickshawmen and briefed them about the status of repair works programme and appealed to call off the agitation.

They informed the agitators that the civic body has made a budgetary provision of Rs eight crore for road repair works, which will be completed by March end next year.

After their assurances, the autorickshaw drivers called off their agitation.
