State to sign MoUs with power co

Itanagar, Sep 20: Arunachal Pradesh will sign an MoU with three power giants--National Hydro-Electric Power Corporation(NHPC), North eastern Electric Power Corporation (NEEPCO) and National Thermal Power Corporation (NTPC) for setting up around 21000 mw power generation capacity in the state.

Union Power Minister Sushil Kumar Shinde along with power secretary R V Sahi and joint secretary A K Kutty will arrive here tomorrow to execute the signing of the MoUs, according to power department sources here today.

Chief Minister Gegong Apang, Power Minister Dorjee Khandu, chief secretary Tabom Bam along with other ministers, MLAs and officials would be present during the signing. Of the identified projects in the state, the NTPC is planning to undertake two projects 4000 mw Etalin and 500 mw Attunli, official sources said.

An investment of Rs 250 billion by the NHPC has been planned for five projects out of which the 3,000 MW Dibang Multi-purpose project would be undertaken as a joint venture of NHPC and the state government, sources added.

The other four projects Tawang I and Tawang II of 750 mw each, Subansiri Upper of 2000 mw and Subansiri Middle of 1600 mw would be undertaken by the NHPC on its own. The Corporation is also executing the 2000 mw Lower Subansiri project at Gerukamukh. NEEPCO has already executed the 405 mw Ranganadi Hydro Electric Project besides executing Kameng Hydro-Electric Project in West Kameng district.
