ACCI welcomes Andaman's tourism plan

Port Blair, Sep 20: The Andaman Chamber of Commerce and Industry (ACCI) has welcomed the move of the territory's administration for opening 50 sites in 15 virgin islands for tourism development.

'' We request the administration to expedite the proposal so that the projects are not delayed, '' ACCI president Md H Jadwet said.

The ACCI has been advocating the need to identify potential sites to develop better infrastructure like high-value resorts, trekking paths and many more.

High-value tourism would generate more employment to the people here and boost the local economy, official sources said.

Mr Jadwet said sufficient safeguards would be provided in all the projects to ensure that the environment is protected.

Earlier, a section of environmentalists in this remote archipelago had objected the opening of new tourism sites saying that the territory does not have proper waste management plan.
