3 per cent rise in Price Index for agricultural workers

New Delhi, Sep 20 (UNI) All-India Consumer Price Index for Agricultural and Rural Labourers increased by three points and two points respectively during August the Labour Ministry said today.

The index for agricultural workers now stand at 375 points and for rural workers 376 points.

In the case of agricultural workers, the index went up in 16 states by 1-9 points while there was a dip in the index in two states, the Ministry said.

For rural workers, 15 states showed increase in the index between 1 and 9 points while it went down in three states.

Orissa experienced the sharpest increase of 9 points for agricultural workers as well as rural workers, the Ministry said.

The rise has been mainly due to increase in the prices of rice, wheat atta, ragi, onions, chillies dry, vegetables and fruits, firewood and saree cotton.

On the other hand, Bihar and West Bengal recorded a decline of 2 points in the index for agricultural workers mainly due to decrease in prices of rice, wheat atta, maize, chillies green and vegetables and fruits.

Meghalaya and Punjab with 402 points each for agricultural workers and Punjab with 406 points for rural workers figured at the top of the index table. Manipur with 333 points for agricultural workers and 334 points for rural workers remained at the bottom of the index.
