3 ABVP leaders arrested on murder charge

Ujjain, Sep 20(UNI) Three ABVP leaders were arrested here today on the charge of murdering Prof H S Sabharwal during students violence at the Madhav College here.

With this, a total of 5 ABVP leaders were arrested on murder charge, Ujjain Range Inspector General of Police Anil Kumar said.

He said Sudhir Yadav, Hemant Dube and Pankaj Mishra, who were absconding, were arrested here. Another accused Vishal Rajoria is still absconding.

Sudhir Yadav and Hemant Dube were already on bail after their earlier arrest on the charge of rioting and misbehaving with Prof M L Nath. Subsequently, murder charge was registered against them.

Earlier, State ABVP President Shashi Ranjan Singh Akela and Organising Secretary Vimal Tomar were arrested on murder charge and they were remanded to judicial custody till September 29.

Following abrupt postponement of students union elections at Madhav College on August 26, students resorted to violence and manhandled Prof H S Sabharwal, who died the same day, and blackened the face of Prof Nath.

In the wake of outcry for allegedly protecting the guilty, Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan ordered CID inquiry, after rejecting the opposition demand for CBI probe.

More than 37 people, including those of ABVP, NSUI and Congress, had been detained so far for violence and rioting.
