Thai PM's speach in UN preponed

UNITED NATIONS, Sep 19: Thai Prime Minister Thaksin Shinawatra's speech to the United Nations General Assembly has been brought forward at 0430 hrs IST amid signs of the first attempted coup in Thailand in 15 years.

UN spokeswoman Marie Okabe said the schedule of speakers had been changed and Thaksin would now make his speech at around 7 pm 0430 hrs IST. He had been scheduled to speak tomorrow afternoon.

Earlier in a voice broadcast from New York, Thaksin declared a state of emergency in Thailand and ordered troops not to ''move illegally.''
