UKIERI announces PhD scholarships
New Delhi, Sep 19 (UNI) The UK-India Education and Research Initiative (UKIERI) has announced ten PhD scholarships for Indians to carry out research leading to PhD and DPhil in UK institutions.
Candidates with excellent academic background are eligible to apply for the scholarships available over the period 2006-7, the British Council said.
Applications are welcome from candidates in all disciplines although the majority of the awards are likely to be in areas related to science and technology, the Council said.
The scholarships are aimed at strengthening educational relations between India and UK in the next five years so that in the longer term, the two countries become each other's partner of choice in education.
According to the Council, UKIERI scholarships are fully funded, including academic fees, international airfare and a monthly stipend to cover living expenses.
Candidates for the scholarships are selected through a process of shortlisting from the applications received by the UKIERI Secretariat, followed by personal interviews, which will be held in New Delhi or in one of the British Council regional offices in Chennai, Kolkata or Mumbai.
Subsequent to the interviews, the selection committee will identify the required number of candidates for the awards and selection results will be communicated within a week following the interview, the Council said.
The deadline for submission is October 15.
Application form can be downloaded from the website www.ukieri.org.
