TRS continue to Pressurise Cong, activists 'gherao' minister

Hyderabad, Sep 19: Ahead of TRS Chief K Chandrasekara Rao's meeting with Lok Sabha Speaker Somnath Chatterjee on September 23 to authenticate his letter of resignation from the lower house of Parliament, the party today continued to mount pressure on the ruling Congress.

Telangana Rashtra samiti activists obstructed the convoy of Andhra Pradesh Energy Minister Md Ali Shabeer at Kamareddy in Nizamabad district.

As the TRS activists waylaid the convoy of the Minister, the latter got down and tried to pacify the protestors, who demanded that he take up the statehood issue with the Congress High Command, according to reports received by the Police here.

Meanwhile, State Rural Development Minister D Srinivas appealed to the TRS Chief to take back his resignation from the Lok Sabha.

Keeping in mind the Pradesh Congress executive and Congress Legislature party meeting tomorrow, the 'Telangana Vidyarthi Sangham' and 'Telangana Madiga Reservation Porata Samiti', whose activists had created a sensation yesterday when they manhandled Congress MP L Rajagopal, submitted a memorandum to PCC Chief K Keshava Rao and threatened to continue their stir till Mr Rajagopal withdraws his 'anti-Telangana' remarks.

Meanwhile, senior TRS leader A Narendra, who had quit the Manmohan Singh government along with Mr Chandrasekara Rao, told reporters that there was no no question of the party reconsidering its decision to quit the UPA Government, unless positive signals come from Ms Sonia Gandhi. He disassociated his party from the attack by a 'mob of students' against Mr Rajagopal.

The Congress High Command had directed AICC General Secretary Digvijay Singh to immediately intervene and resolve the differences among party leaders from different regions of Andhra Pradesh.

Meanwhile, Mr Rajagopal left for New Delhi to appraise the party High Command about yesterday's incident.
