Taxi owners observe a day strike in Mizoram
Aizawl, Sep 19 (UNI) Mizoram's Zoram Taxi Owners Association (ZTOA) has staged demonstrations protesting against the order of state's transport authority to ply taxis as per the registration numbers on alternate days.
ZTOA observed a 24 hours taxi strike today threatening to intesify the movement if the orders were not modified.
Talking to newsmen here today ZTOA president K Lalfakzuala said the decision of plying taxis on alternate days is not the solution to the traffic problems.
'' The new rule has posed a threat to our lively hood'', said Mr Lalfakzuala.
He said about 43,000 vehicles were registered here with only 2500 taxis and added that the private vehicles are increasing everyday.
According to ZTOA, the City Rides buses in city's less travelled localities have added to the traffic congestion.
He also said the lack of city planning was the prime cause for immense traffic jams.
Meanwhile, the coordination committee meeting on traffic management yesterday upheld the decision to implement plans for taxis while approving that more permits will be issued for mini-buses in view of the public need.
