1993 blasts: TADA Court convicts Abdul Gani Turk

Mumbai, Sep 19: The designated TADA court here today convicted Abdul Gani Turk for planting bomb at Century Bazaar in Worli in 1993 in which 113 persons were killed and 227 were injured.

The 47-year-old Turk, who was arrested soon after the blast, was the driver of the prime accused Tiger Memon. On March 12, 1993, he parked a RDX-laden jeep at Century Bazaar which had claimed maximum casualties during the serial blasts which rocked the metropolis on March 12, 1993.

Designated TADA judge P D Kode pronouncing the final verdict in the serial blast case, found Turk guilty under various sections of the TADA Act, Indian Penal Code (IPC), Explosive Substances Act, Prevention of Public Property Damage Act and others.

The 1993 serial bomb blasts in the megapolis had claimed 257 lives and left over 700 people wounded.
