Silchar-Porbandar Golden Quadrilateral linkage on progress
Aizawl, Sep 19 (UNI) As part of Golden Quadrilateral (GQ) linkage between east and west corridor, National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) has started road constructions from Silchar (Assam) to Porbandar in Gujarat.
According to the Surface Communication ministry, NHAI has initiated the work in 2004 under the 13,146 km National Highways Development Project (NHDP) in the country.
Central Public Work Department (CPWD) officials here today said about 13 construction organisations have been engaged in the project.
Besides, the GQ linkage among all the metros and from Srinagar to Kanyakumari have also been launched at the same time.
Total GQ length is 5,846 km including 4,000 km of north-south corridor and 3,300 km of east-west corridor.
NHAI started the work following the study report of World Bank, which estimated yearly benefits of Rs 80,000 million through GQ project alone.
About 2.5 to 4 million metric tonnes of cement and 250,000 to 350,000 metric tonnes of steel would be consumed annually in the project, official sources said.
The project would provide employment to 40 persons per km a day, which totals to 180 million people including supervisory staff of consultants and contractors, CPWD sources stated.
