SAD dishes out pre-poll promises in Punjab
Jalandhar, Sep 19 (UNI) The Shiromani Akali Dal(SAD) today said it will set up business development board and a state sports school in Punjab if it come to power after the Assembly elections due in February next year.
The party has also promised a grant of Rs 15,000 for the marriage of poor girls and also provide free education to girls from these families.
Speaking at a rally in the Sabji Mandi premises here this afternoon, SAD general secretary Sukhbir Singh Badal promised welfare for every stratum of the society.
He said business promotion board would be headed by a chairman with status of a cabinet minister and contentious issues including VAT and other tax related problems would be referred to this board for amicable solution.
Mr Badal said miseries of poor people would be addressed on a priority basis. He said a grant of Rs 15,000 was being planed for expenses of marriage of girls belonging to poor families.
Economically poor people living in city areas would be each alloted a plot of 125 sq yards and their daughters would be provided free education and books, he added.
Mr Badal said his party was equally concerned about providing appropriate facilities and opportunities to brighten the career prospects of the younger generation. In this regard, joint ventures of universities in Punjab with leading foreign institution would be undertaken , he added.
For extra curricular activities, the sports school would be set up on lines of National Sports School (NSS), Patiala and sports infrastructure would be further strengthened in the state, he added.
