Red Cross launches P G diploma course in disaster preparedness
New Delhi, Sep 19 (UNI) Indian Red Cross Society is offering a one-year post graduate diploma course in Disaster Preparedness and Rehabilitation from this academic session.
Inaugurating the course at a function here, Union Health and Family Welfare Minister Anbumani Ramadoss congratulated Red Cross Society for starting the new programme saying it is time to start disaster preparedness instead of acting after disaster strikes.
Dr Ramadoss said the Indian Red Cross Society has been active in responding to disasters and has developed technical and practical expertise in the field of disaster management.
He called upon the Red Cross Society to institute four regional blood banks of international standards. He said blood donation should be made as a movement.
Talking to mediapersons, Dr Ramadoss said the Government was funding this programme and his Ministry will recommend one increment to the officials opting for the course.
Health and Family Welfare Secretary P K Hota said the course will help in providing opportunities to professionals to obtain specialised qualification with global recognition in disaster preparedness.
Dr S P Aggarwal, Secretary General, Indian Red Cross Society, Prof K K Agarwal, Vice Chancellor of Guru Gobind Singh Indraprastha University, and other personalities spoke on the occasion.
