Rains claim six lives
Hyderabad, Sep 19 (UNI) Six people were killed in heavy rains which lashed coastal Andhra Pradesh and Telangana regions under the influence of a low pressure area, throwing normal life out of gear in parts of the state.
The worst-hit Karimnagar district accounted for the six deaths in rain-related incidents, Diasster Management Assistant Commissioner Priyadarshini told UNI.
Fairly widespread rainfall with isolated heavy to very heavy rain is likely over north Coastal Andhra Pradesh and Telangana in the next one or two days as upper air cyclonic circulation associated with yesterday's low pressure, lay over North Coastal Andhra region and extended upto mid-tropospheric levels, according to Hyderabad Meteorological Centre Director M Satya Kumar.
Perur in Khammam district and Huzurabad in Karimnagar district recorded extremely heavy rainfall of 27 and 25 cm, respectively.
Traffic from Karimnagar to the state capital as also Adilabad were affected as intermittent rains inundated many parts in Telangana and coastal Andhra, Over 3000 families were shifted to relief camps in the worst-hit Karimnagar district.
With heavy inflows from neighbouring states of Maharashtra, Karnataka and Orissa, major rivers including Godavari and its tributaries, Vamsadara and Nagavalli began to rise again, causing panic among the people affected by the previous spell of floods.
