Punjab Assembly adjourned sine die
Chandigarh, Sep 19 (UNI) The last session of the 12th Punjab Vidhan Sabha, which witnessed the suspension of the opposition Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) and BJP MLAs on Friday, was today adjourned sine die.
The assembly today passed a resolution endorsing a 1998 report of the then Governor in which he had turned down the Lok Pal recommendations for action against four ministers in the erstwhile Beant Singh government for amassing wealth disproportionate to their incomes.
''To settle this issue once for all, this House expresses its satisfaction and agrees with the decision of the competent authority (Governor) taken in the matter of the reports of the Punjab Lok Pal, the resolution stated.
These four Congressmen included PPCC chief S S Dullo, Punjab Rural Development Minister Lal Singh, Balmukund Sharma and Lakhmir Singh Randhawa.
Moving the resolution, Parliamentary Affairs Minister Ch Jagjit Singh stated this matter was being grossly misused by various lobbies with vested interests, including the opposition parties, giving unnecessary hype in the media.
Thus, he said, the assembly needed to draw the curtains finally on this issue by acknowledging the report of former Governor B K N Chhibber in this regard.
