Mumbai, Sept 19: A local court here today further extended the judicial custody of Pravin Mahajan, arrested in connection with the murder of his elder brother and senior Bharatiya Janata Party leader Pramod Mahajan, till October 3.

Pravin Mahajan was produced before additional sessions judge Srihari P Davare.

Meanwhile, the court was informed that the state was yet to decide on the appointment of a special public prosecutor in the case. Adv Shrikant Bhat, who had been appointed as special public prosecutor, had resigned recently. The court granted permission to Pravin Mahajan to meet his wife, Sarangi, after conclusion of the court proceedings today. Following the permission, Pravin Mahajan met his wife for nearly 45 minutes in the presence of cops.

Pravin Mahajan has been accused of shooting his brother Pramod Mahajan at the latter's Worli residence on April 22. Pramod Mahajan succumbed to his injuries at the P D Hinduja Hospital on May 3.

The charge-sheet in the case was filed on July 14. Pravin Mahajan had moved a bail application before a fast track court which was rejected on August 1 as there was prima facie evidence against him.

He is currently lodged in the high-security cell of the Arthur Road Jail after his arrest on April 22.
