Padmarajan to contest an election for record 80th time

Madurai, Sep 19 (UNI) Propelled by the desire to enter the GuinnesS Book of Records, a veteran of many an electoral battle, Dr K Padmarajan today entered the fray for the bypoll to Madurai Central Constituency.

Forty-four-year old Dr Padmadrajan of Mettur near Dharmapuri, today filed his nomination papers before the returning officer at the District Collector's complex.

Having found the place in the Limca Book of Records in 2003 for contesting a record number of elections, this bypoll would be his 80th contest.

He first tested his electoral fortunes in 1989 Lok Sabha elections when he unsuccessfully contested against M G Sekhar (AIADMK) in Dharmapuri.

Dr Padmarajan is also a reporter in the little-known magazine 'Kalaipuratchi'.

Notable personalities against whom he contested include President A P J Abdul Kalam, Vice President Bhiron Singh Shekhawat, Former President K R Narayanan, former Vice President Krishna Kant, former Prime Ministers P V Narasimha Rao and A B Vajpai, Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M Karunanidhi and AIADMK supremo J Jayalalithaa.
