Orissa govt to clear five power projects worth Rs 18,000 crore

Bhubaneswar, Sep 19 (UNI) A high level project clearance authority of the Orissa government is likely to clear five power projects to be set up in the state to generate a total 4200 MW of power at a total investment of Rs 18,000 crore.

The single window system of the government-run Industrial Promotion and Investment Corporation Limited(IPICOL) had already cleared the proposals and referred them to the authority for final clearance.

With these five power projects,the state government had so far received proposal from as many as 21 companies to set up thermal power projects with an investment of nearly 1.5 lakh crore. They included a proposal from the Reliance ADA Group to set up a 12,000 MW power plant at an investment of nearly Rs 60,000 crore at Hirma in Jharsugura district in Western Orissa.

According to official sources, KVK Neelachal Private Limited has proposed to set up a 600 MW thermal power plant at Angul at an estimated cost of Rs.2580 crores. Similarly another company called Monnet Ispat and Energy Limited had also evinced interest to set up 2X300 MW power plant at Angul with an investment of Rs 2652 crore.

The Kolkata Electrical Company Limited submitted a proposal to have a 1000 MW power plant at Neulipur with an investment of Rs 4042 crore. The Tata Power Company Limited also has decided to go for a 1000 MW power plant at Marthapur near Naraj in Cuttack at an estimated cost of Rs 4348 crore.

This apart, the ESSAR Power Limited showed keen interest in setting up of a 1000 MW thermal power plant near Talcher with a total investment of Rs 4500 crore.

Official sources said the High Level Project Clearance Authority, headed by the Chief Minister, would also consider the proposal of Grasim Industries Limited to set up a 3.5 MTPA Integrated Cement plant using fly ash and slag at an investment of Rs 1220 crore.
