Nitish faces angry demonstration
Patna, Sep 19 (UNI) Police today resorted to lathicharge and burst teargas shells on an agitated group of homeguards, who tried to stop the motorcade of Chief Minister Nitish Kumar in the heart of the capital town.
The homeguards were staging a demonstration and blocked movement of traffic along Baily Road, the main throughfare connecting state secretariat with rest of the town, to press for fulfilment of their demand for regularisation of services.
Furious at delay in regularisation of services, thousands of trained homeguards squatted and lied down on the road with a view to disrupting movement of traffic and refused to disperse to make way for the motorcades of Chief Minister Nitish Kumar and his deputy Sushil Kumar Modi.
Failing to persuade the agitators to move away, force was used to disperse them, police said.
