Mumbai: Govt Law College completes 150 years
Mumbai, Sep 19: Government Law College (GLC) here will complete 150 years on September 23 and acting Chief Justice for Bombay High Court V G Palshikar will inaugurate an exhibition on the occasion of its sesquicentennial celebrations starting September 22 in the presence of State Education Minister Dilip Walse Patil.
The Chief Justice of India Y K Sabharwal has been invited as the Chief Guest while Governor of Rajasthan, Prathibha Patil an alumnus of GLC, will preside over the function. Besides, Justice S H Bhatia and Home Minister for State R R Patil will honour the function on September 23.
Apart from the exhibition which will showcase various photographs, books and documents, the highlight of the function will be the court martial of Justice Srikrishna, former Judge of the Supreme Court, the chairman of the Sixth Pay Commission and an alumnus by senior counsels Rajani Iyer and Milind Sathe. A skit by Bharat Dhabolkar, a GLC alumnus, and an invocation dance by Gita Kasturi will be lighter entertainment for the evening.
The college will felicitate 20 of the listed 100 alumni including L K Advani, Khalid Ansari, Ramrao Adhik, Dilip Walse Patil himself, Mukesh Khanna and Fali S Nariman.
''The college is expecting a lot from Mr Dilip Walse Patil, who has shown keen interest in upgrading the infrastructure of GLC,'' said Professor Dilip Shinde.
He also praised the alumni association of the college headed by Senior Counsel Rafiq Dada.
GLC which nurtured and produced six Chief Justices of India and many Judges of the Supreme Court, High Court and other courts of India has deteriorated due to lack of infrastructural facilities. But with a little aide from the state and its alumni, it is ready to spread its wings and fly again.
