MLA remanded to judicial custody in Collector abuse case
Ongole, Andhra Pradesh, Sep 19 (UNI) TDP legislator Karanam Balaram, who had surrendered before the police last night, following a complaint from the District Collector Udaya Laxmi that he had abused her, was remanded to judicial custody for two weeks.
Mr Balaram was produced before the Additional Munsif Magistrate P Rajyalakshmi this morning and remanded to judicial custody till October three.
His counsel filed a bail petition in the court.
It is alleged that he abused the Collector in the presence of the media while leading a demonstration by the displaced people of the Gundlakamma Project.
The case was registered with the Maddipadu police station.
Police resorted to a lathicharge to disperse the TDP activists protesting before the police station where the MLA surrendered.
TDP alleged that the police were foisting cases against him.
About 20 TDP activists were injured in the incident.
