Maoist leader arrested

Siliguri, Sep 19 (UNI) Maoist leader Chandra Prakash was arrested by Jalpaiguri Police last night in Chennai, police today said.

Jalpaiguri district police had reached Chennai, where Chandra went for treatment, to capture him on September 17.

Police, however, could not release Prakash unless Chennai High Court gave a transit remand order upto New Jalpaiguri.

Police officials said Prakash was ''wanted'' since May 19, 2004.

Prakash was arrested by Chennai Police on January 28 for carrying illegal passport. Last month he was released from Chennai Central Jail.
