Mallya defends support to Mohun Bagan, East Bengal

Bangalore, Sep 19 (UNI) Defending United Breweries Group's support to Kolkata football giants Mohun Bagan and East Bengal, Group Chairman Vijay Mallya today said it had helped improve the brand equity of both Kingfisher and McDowell.

Addressing shareholders at the company's Annual General Meeting here, he said while East Bengal was supported by UB with Kingfisher brand, McDowell supported Mohun Bagan.

Stating that both the teams were prominent in West Bengal and a few other states and had won national championships, Mr Mallya said last year they could not perform better. However, the teams have regrouped themselves and were expected to perform better this year.

He said the two group companies were not sponsoring the teams, but had only entered into joint venture arrangement with the team managements.
