Govt to ask for reduced airfare
Thiruvananthapuram, Sep 19: Kerala Chief Minister V S Achuthanandan told the State Assembly today that his government would continue to exert pressure on the Centre to bring down the air fare charged by Indian and Air India in the Kerala-Gulf sector.
Replying to a calling attention motion by Mr A P Anil Kumar (Cong), he said there was no doubt that the national carriers had been realising exorbitant fares in the sector.
He said an all-party delegation led by him had brought the issue before the Prime Minister and the Civil Aviation Minister. Besides, MPs from Kerala had also taken up the issue.
Mr Achuthanandan also urged Air India to provide more seats in the low fare for the benefit of the Keralites seeking job in the Gulf.
