Karunanidhi asks Dist Collectors to tone up functioning
Chennai, Sep 18 (UNI) Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M Karunanidhi today called upon District Collectors to tone up their functioning and help in expeditious disposal of files.
In his concluding address at the District Collectors conference here, Mr Karunanidhi said the officials should realise they were the envoys of the government and work ceaselessly in the discharge of their duties.
He sought to justify official transfers saying they were done due to necessity.
Mr Karunanidhi also spoke on the need for expeditious clearance of files.
Recalling former Chief Minister Annadurai's advice to his Cabinet when they took office in 1967, Mr Karunanidhi said the Dravidian leader had always emphasised on the need to clear files expeditiously saying failure to do so would affect a number of families.
The DMK chief also recalled numerous instances during the previous regime where files were kept pending for a long time by the then Chief Minister and said he cleared 1,112 such files during the first week into office.
He said the delays caused hardship to several people and asked the officials to ensure the files were cleared promptly.
