Gujarat Govt to extend Chiranjeevi Yojana across State
Gandhinagar, Sep 19 (UNI) The Gujarat Government proposes to extend the ''Chiranjeevi Yojana'', a scheme aimed at fostering the well-being of the mother and child, across the State.
The scheme, at present, is being implemented in five districts of Kutch, Banaskantha, Sabarkantha, Panchmahals and Dahod.
An official statement, while quoting statistics, said every year 389 women die during delivery while 60 out of 1,000 babies die soon after birth. The Government is committed to bring down the death rate, the statement said. Sustained efforts by the State Government has led to a reduction in the death rate among infants from 60 per thousand to 50 per thousand, the statement claimed.
To assure ''safe delivery'', the Gujarat Government has signed MoUs with 100 maternity nursing homes under the ''Chiranjeevi Yojana''.
