Govt lowers first advance estimates for kharif production in 2006-07

New Delhi, Sep 19 (UNI) The Government has lowered the first advance estimate of production of foodgrains for Kharif 2006-07 pegged at 105.22 million tonnes against a target of 115.25 million tonnes.

The first and fourth advance estimates of production of foodgrains for 2005-06 have been 105.25 and 109.7 million tonnes respectively, according to an official release here today.

Kharif rice production in the first advance estimate for 2006-07 is 75.74 million tonnes against a target of 80.78 million tonnes.

The fourth advance estimate of rice production for 2005-06 was 78.04 million tonnes while the first advance estimate was pegged at 73.83 million tonnes.

Production of Kharif pulses has been estimated at 4.97 million tonnes for 2006-07 as against a target of 5.78 million tonnes. The first and fourth advance estimates for 2005-06 were 4.98 and 4.66 million tonnes respectively.

Production of bajra and maize are estimated at 7.74 million tonnes and 11.43 million tonnes in the 1st advance estimate for 2006-07 respectively against a target of 8.55 million tonnes and 12.54 million tonnes.

Cereal production according to the first advance estimate of Kharif 2006-07 is 100.25 million tonnes against a target of 109.47 million tonnes. The fourth advance estimate of cereal production during 2005-06 was 105.04 million tonnes against a first advance estimate of 100.27 million tonnes.

Production of coarse cereals is estimated at 24.51 million tonnes as against a target of 28.69 million tonnes during 2006-07.

Groundnut production during Kharif 2006-07 is estimated at 40.89 lakh tonnes against a target of 71 lakh tonnes. The fourth advance estimate of groundnut during Kharif 2005-06 was 62.23 lakh tonnes while the first advance estimate was 59.43 lakh tonnes.

Production of soyabean during 2006-07 is estimated at 75.46 lakh tonnes against a target of 86.92 lakh tonnes. The fourth advance estimate for 2005-06 was 83.5 lakh tonnes.

The total production of nine oilseeds namely, ground nut, castor seed, sesamum, Nigerseed, Rapeseed, Mustard, Linseed, Sunflower and Soyabean is estimated at 132.39 lakh tonnes against a target of 181.21 lakh tonnes in the first advance estimate for 2006-07.

The first and fourth advance estimates of these oilseeds for 2005-06 were 145.62 and 168.38 lakh tonnes respectively.

Cotton production in the first advance estimate is pegged at 181.41 lakh tonnes against a target of 185 lakh tonnes during 2006-07.

The first and fourth advance estimates for cotton production during 2005-06 were respectively 159.02 and 195.72 lakh tonnes (in lakh bales of 170 kg. each).

Production of jute and mesta will be 109.27 lakh tonnes according to the first advance estimate of commercial crops for 2006-07 with a target of 112.8 lakh tonnes. The fourth advance estimate of production of jute and mesta was 107.47 lakh tonnes in 2005-06 as against 100.85 lakh tonnes estimated in the first advance estimate (in lakh bales of 180 kg. each).

Total production of sugarcane will be 2,834.04 lakh tonnes according to the first advance estimates for 2006-07 against a target of 2700 lakh tonnes. The first and fourth advance estimates for 2005-06 were 2577.19 and 2783.87 lakh tonnes respectively.

The estimates are subject to revision on receipt of more precise information emerging over time, the release added.
