Four health officials suspended over jaundice outbreak
Kurukshetra, Sep 19 (UNI) The Haryana government has suspended four health officials in Shahabad for dereliction of duty and utter failure to provide clean drinking water supply in the town under the grip of jaundice for over a month.
The suspension of one sub-division officer and three junior engineers of public health department came in the wake of two deaths due to Hepatitis E strain of jaundice.
Deputy Commissioner T K Sharma told the reporters that the action by the state government was taken in view of the complaints that out of 6000 water tap connections, 60 were found to be carrying the lethal bacteria of Hepatitis E due to intermingling of water pipes with drainage in many wards of the town.
Of the four patients referred by the Community Health Centre of Shahabad to PGI, two have died in the premier health institute, while two others are still undergoing treatment.
