EU delegation meets Jammu Industrialists

Jammu, Sep 19 (UNI) A European Union delegation, lead by Ambassador of Finland to India Asko Numminen, today met inudstrialists while surveying the scope big business in militancy-infested Jammu and Kashmir.

''the EU delegation has assured us they will convey the message to the opinion makers of the world that situation in this region is condusive for trade and business,'' chamber of commerce and industry president Ram Sahai told UNI.

The industrialists also submitted a seven-point memorandam to the visiting EU delegation, seeking participation of European countries for economic development and industrial growth of the state.

''In the state, particularly Jammu region, the ground situation is entirely different.

''Along with power generation and infrastructure development, handicraft, leather, agriculture and wood-based industries, have vast potential for prospective entrepreneurs'' Mr Sahai said.

The industialists appealed the EU nations for initiating some joint venture projects in the state.

For this, the industry body said, the business delegation from the EU should visit the state and see the ground situation, which has been ''over projected'' by the media.

European Commission Ambassador Francisco DA Camara gomes was also in the delegation.
