Dacoits loot Kutra branch of SBI;One arrested
Rourkela, Sep 19 (UNI) Four armed dacoits today looted Rs 8.74 lakhs from the Kutra branch of the State Bank of India(SBI) at gunpoint and decamped with the booty.
However the Sundargarh police later in cooperation with the Jharkhand police managed to nab one dacoit and recovered a sizable amount of the looted money from his possession during a joint combing operation.
According to the police, the four armed dacoits came to the Bank at around 1100 hours in two motor cycles and threatened the bank employees at gun point.
They overpowered the bank employees,looted the cash and fled from the scene.
Soon after the incident the police arrived the spot and sealed all the exit points to nab the dacoits.The Orissa police also later informed their counterparts in Jharkhand to assist in the combing operation.
Later a joint combing operation led to the arrest of one of the dacoit inside the Jharkhand border.The police seized one pistol, two live bombs,one motor cycle and 26 live cartridges besides Rs.7.84 lakhs cash after an exchange of fire.
Three other members of gang however, managed to escape during the encounter inside the dense forest.Police said the four member dacoits belonged to the Babla police station area under Simdega police district in Jharkhand.
Senior police officials have rushed to the site and the joint combing operation is still continuing to nab the three other members of the gang, Police said.
