Committee discusses amendment to J
Srinagar Sep 19 (UNI) A select committee discussed issues relating to the amendment to the Jammu and Kashmir Reservation Act, 2004.
The Committee, constituted by the Jammu and Kashmir Assembly, headed by Social Welfare Minister Haji Nissar Khan interacted with Registrars of both Jammu and Kashmir Universities last evening.
They were invited by the Committee to throw light on certain points pertaining to the reservation of various categories for admission in universities and colleges.
The representatives of these universities briefed the Committee about the existing provisions of admission to reserved categories under various courses.
A Bill to amend the Jammu and Kashmir Reservation Act, 2004 was introduced by a Private Member in the state Assembly during the budget session this year and was then referred to a Select Committee for consideration and its recommendations.
The Bill seeks to provide reservation for SC/ST and socially and educationally backward classes in universities and degree colleges for admission purposes.
Among those present in the meeting were legislators Nazir Ahmed Gurezi, Mula Ram, Faqir Nath, Javed Rana, Chaman Lal, Mohammad Khalil Naik and Assembly Additional Secretary G N Mir.
