BJP stages dharna againt a lottery, submits memo to governor
Itanagar, Sep 19 (UNI) The BJP in Arunachal Pradesh today staged a peaceful dharna here as part of its agitational programme in protest against the unfair draw of a lottery on August 15.
The draw was organised in aid of an educational institution of the state. All the prizes were allegedly won by the organising committee which snowballed into a major crisis in the state as the aggrieved ticket holders resorted to bandh calls. The state government was forced to constitute a one-man committee to investigate into the matter.
The saffron party opposed the process of the draw and demanded immediate re-draw.
Meanwhile, the party today also submitted a seven-point memorandum to Governor S K Singh demanding his intervention in various issues confronting the state.
Besides the lottery scam the other demands include revival of state Cooperative Apex Bank, reconsideration of the government decision on retrenchment of Arunachal Pradesh Forest Corporation employees, initiate steps for its revival etc.
