Bina Ramani's husband gets partial relief

New Delhi, Sep 19 (UNI) After hearing the arguments on both the sides in the matter of Bina Ramani's husband George Mailhot's anticipatory bail application, the additional sessions judge, New Delhi granted partial relief (interim protection) to the petitioner in a case relating to destruction of evidence regarding the Jessica Lal murder.

As per order of the ASJ, during the police custody of the main accused Bina Ramani, the original documents could not be recovered.

It was also admitted that as per the prosecution case, all the fake documents for the purpose of running the restaurant were prepared by Ms Ramani, who was running the Tamarind Court restaurant where the murder took place on April 29, 1999.

However, considering the averment of the investigation officer that the investigation was still in progress and the role of the petitioner is under probe, the court did not incline to admit the petitioner to anticipatory bail at this stage.

The name of the petitioner is not in the FIR and the only evidence collected till now is the statement of Sanjay Rohila, the ex-accountant of Ms Ramani, who has alleged that the petitioner had put the date under the signatures of Shri Diwan Chand, now deceased.

The interim protection has been granted to the petitioner and it is directed that in case he required to be arrested, he shall be given seven days prior notice before arrest.
