10,000 anganwadi set up in schools
Hyderabad, Sep 19: Andhra Pradesh Primary Education minister N Rajyalaxmi has announced that the state government would construct 10,800 anganwadi centres in the villages selected under INDIRAMMA scheme at the cost of Rs 40 crore.
Addressing newspersons here yesterday, she said 4000 centres would be constructed in the first phase and the remaining in the next.
The state government has sent proposals to NABARD for financial assistance in this regard.
Stating that 2504 centres would be set up in the government school premises, she said 9,562 anganwadi workers and helpers would also be recruited by the end of next month.
Ms Rajyalaxmi said the government was also contempleting increasing cash prize to the people who come forward to marry handicapped persons, Scheduled Caste and Scheduled Tribes.
To a question, she said the education department proposed to shift the responsibility of recruitment of teachers to the Andhra Pradesh Public Service Commission (APPSC) due to increasing burden on the department.
