Amit, Tejvansh, Roop Saran score upset wins in talent series
Chandigarh, Sep 19 (UNI) Amit Chouhan of Lake Club maintained his winning spree upsetting second seed Akshay Ahuja of Haryana in straight sets 7-5, 6-3 in the boys under-16 singles second round match in Monsanto AITA Talent Series at the CLTA Stadium in Sector 10 here today.
His next opponent in the quarter-fnal round will be fifth seed Harry Amor of Chandigarh. Harry toiled to get the better of Naveen Shankar of Chandigarh in three sets 6-2, 4-6, 6-0.
Giant-killer Digvijay Mehta from Himachal Pradesh and a trainee of Chandigarh Lawn Tennis Association, moved up at the expense of Vaibhav Gupta of Chandigarh 6-0, 6-2. He next faces Ajay Yadav who upset fifth seed Ashwani Kumar of Chandigarh in three well-contested sets 6-4, 3-6, 6-3.
Third seed Maninder Singh of Haryana made his exit as he lost to Tejvansh Singh of Punjab in a thrilling second round match.
Tejvansh won 6-1, 6-7 (2), 6-0.
Second seed Sunaina Sharma of Assam was shocked in the girls Under-16 singles second round match. Roop Saran of Chandigarh and Sunaina were engaged in a tough match which was extended to three sets, with the local girl emerging victorious 6-3, 4-6, 7-5.
