200 cases of Dengue reported in Delhi

New Delhi, Sep 19 (UNI) A total of 200 cases of dengue have so far been reported in the national capital out of which 64 cases were reported last week, Delhi Health Minister Yoganand Shastri said today.

He said of the 64 cases 32 cases are from Delhi and 32 are from Haryana, Uttar Pradesh and other states.

''Seven cases were found fatal and two are from Delhi and five from outside,'' he said during a meeting on water and vector borne diseases, In Karol Bagh area, 11 cases of dengue were found last week.

Officials visited more than 5 lakh houses to review steps for checking breeding.

While 4,445 houses were found positive for breeding, 2,146 cases were issued legal notices, Dr Shastri said.

Women Polytechnic ITI, Khelgaon, FCI, Khelgaon, some offices of CGO complex and government schools were issued challans.

Stressing upon spreading awareness about the disease, the Health Minister said schools will educate children about dengue and also explain the ways to control breeding of the mosquitoes.

''Principals will read out messages distributed by the Health Departments in their schools on regular basis during assembly time,'' he added.

Expressing concern about the spread of the disease, Dr Shastri said fogging in most affected areas should be taken up on regular basis and also directed the MCD staff to be more vigilant.

'' MCD staff must take rapid action in this regard,'' he said.

Reiterating that coolers, artificial ponds and fountains be kept clean, he said it was a must that all precautionary steps be taken to stop breeding of Ades mosquito, responsible for dengue.

The Health Minister asked MCD to pay special attention to JJ clusters.
