UNI employees in South India oppose take over
Bangalore, Sep 18: Representatives of UNI Southern Employees Federation (UNISEF), an umbrella organistion of employees of the News Agency in South today submitted a memorandum to Information and Broadcasting Minister Priyaranjan Dasmunshi here seeking his intervention to prevent what they claimed an 'hostile' attempt to takeover the agency by a private media group.
In the memorandum, the employees said that they were shocked to hear the news appearing in a section of the media that Essel Group was firming up plans to acquire 60 per cent stake in the agency.
''All the state members coming under UNISEF have resolved to oppose the move by the group and decided to fight against the decision which will push the 1000-odd employees into peril,'' the memorandum said.
The organisation was built solely by the earnest efforts put in by the employees and the management. If it was taken over, the agency would lose its independent identity and would no more be able to continue its unbiased news coverage, the memorandum said.
