TN to emerge as major destination for automotive industry
Chennai, Sept 18 (UNI) Tamil Nadu is set to emerge as a major destination for the automotive industry thanks to the presence of formidable auto industry majors and excellent IT capabilities enjoyed by the state, industry captains said today.
At a meeting held here to welcome and introduce SAE International President Greg Henderson, the industry pundits discussed convergence capabilities of automotive and IT sectors and hailed the prospects of Tamil Nadu not just among other Indian states but in the entire Far East.
SAE India President and Mahindra&Mahindra Automotive Business President Pawan Goenka, Satyam Computer Services Founder and Chairman Ramalinga Raju and SAE International Director(Sales and Marketing Operations) Bob Chalker were among those, who participated in the meeting.
SAE India, comprising mobility practitioners, is an affiliate of SAE International, which has more than 90,000 members across the globe.
Speaking on the occasion, SAE India Senior Vice President M S Kumar said the role of electrics and electronics in automotive industry sought to address two major issues: fuel saving and enviorment-friendliness.
Mr Kumar said considerable progress had already been made in the Indian automotive industry with select auto majors already implementing Euro III norms. In the not-too-distant future, the automotive vehicle might have more electrics content in terms of value than mechanical content, which would work to the advanatage of Tamil Nadu, he added.
Mr Goenka said the advent of more and more electronics getting into automobiles was creating the need to have integrated IT solutions. End-to-end integration would be a must in order to cater to the needs of the customer and managing the scene at the back end from order to production, timely delivery and further for giving that extra bit in terms of service, he added.
