Stir against autonomy to JIPMER continues, services hit
Pondicherry, Sep 18 (UNI) Medical services in the centrally administered JIPMER hospital continued to be hit for the 11th day today as the employees continued their agitation to protest against the granting of autonomous status to it.
The union cabinet has already given its approval to grant autonomous status for JIPMER and the employees were demanding the revocation of the cabinet decision. The employees continued their dharna while the services in the casuality wards was being maintained with a few staff members who reported for duty.
JIPMER had issued appointment orders to 15 para-medical staff who were recruited on a temperory basis. However, they are yet to report for duty today. Interview to select lower division clerks was also conducted.
Meanwhile, the JIPMER Anti-Coversion Peoples Action Committee which had called for a dawn-to-dusk bandh here on September 26, today embarked on a programme to contact people to inform them about the pros and cons of autonomy.
The programme which commenced in the rural areas, will be held in urban areas tomorrow. The committee is scheduled to take out a motor cycle procession this evening.
