Rajnath will take decision on fielding Sidhu: Dhindsa

Patiala, Sep 18 (UNI) BJP President Rajnath Singh will take a decision on fielding former test cricketer and party MP, Navjot Singh Sidhu against Chief Minister Amarinder Singh from the Patiala constituency in the assembly elections to be held in February next year.

''The BJP chief will take the decision in consultation with Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) Chief Prakash Singh Badal'', SAD Secretary general Sukhdev Singh Dhindsa said today.

Mr Dhindsa who is the convener of the SAD-BJP Joint Coordination Committee for seat sharing in the next assembly elections, said his party had forwarded a proposal to field Mr Sidhu against the Chief Minister. The committee had after discussions felt that the matter should be decided by the presidents of the two alliance partners, he added.

He said the former cricketer was an ideal choice as he would ''pin down Capt Singh to Patiala during the campaign''. However there was another view aired by leaders of both parties, who felt that as Mr Sidhu was an impressive speaker and a popular leader, his services could be utilised for canvassing in the state, he added.
