Rajahmundry Mayor plea to govt
Rajahmundry, Sep 18 (UNI) Rajahmundry Mayor M S Chakravarthy today appealed to the government to extend all welfare measures earmarked by the government for the less previleged section of the society to commercial sex workers (CSW).
Addressing CSWs at the 'Nari Saksham' (women's empowerment), the Mayor said the sex workers should be included in the list of beneficiaries for schemes such as Valmiki and Indira Housing Yojana as they were the most vulnerable group in the country.
Saksham CARE Programme Director Sushma Mehrotra said 'it has been proved to us time and again if we facilitate and build community involvement and leadership and confer on them the necessary modicum of respect and tolerance they deserve, their capacity to transform their life and contribute to HIV prevention is tremendous.'
