Policeman killed by bomb in U P

Allahabad, Sep 18 (UNI) Armed motorcycle-borne miscreants today killed a police head constable by hurling a bomb at him in the busy Civil Lines area here.

Posted in Civil Lines police station, head constable Ashok Pandey -- on suspicion -- followed two youth from Pattharghar Girija and asked them to stop.

When they tried to flee, Panday caught one of them at Civil Lines crossing. One miscreant, however, took out a bomb and hurled it at the cop's face from close range. The bomb exploded and blew his head into pieces.

The criminal also received serious injuries on one of his hands.

The duo fled from the spot, leaving their motorcycle, but police jawans present at the crossing gunned one of them.

His accomplice, however, managed to escape.

While fleeing, the miscreant hurled another bomb, in which a sub-inspector was wounded. The criminal also opened fire from his 9 mm pistol to terrorise the cops and locals.

Meanwhile, the slain miscreant was yet to be identified.

Police Superintendent (City) R P S Yadav rushed to the spot.

Investigations were on.
