Police Constable sentenced to seven years RI for rape
Mumbai, Sep 18 (UNI) The Sessions Court today awarded seven years rigorous imprisonment (RI) to a police constable for raping a minor girl in 2004 at Kandivli area, here.
Additional Sessions Judge M S Keny convicted Gopinath Sudhakar Desai, a police constable attached to the Kasturba Marg police station and a resident of Charkop in Kandivli area under sections 363, 366 A and 376 of the Indian Penal Code.
He was also slapped a fine of Rs 5000 on him, which in default, would make it mandatory for him to undergo another six months imprisonment.
According to the prosecution, the parents of the 14 year old girl filed a missing complaint with the Charkop police on December 4, 2004.
Investigations revealed that the constable had kidnapped the girl and taken her to Pune and then to Goa before raping her.
Subsequently, the police constable was nabbed from Garuda lodge at Goa and brought to Mumbai. An FIR was registered against him on December 8, 2004.
