PM misleading nation by talking to Pakistan: BJP

Jammu, Sept 18: Jammu and Kashmir BJP unit today accused Prime Minister Manmohan Singh of 'hoodwinking, misleading and letting-down the nation' by engaging Pakistan in the peace process.

''The Manmohan-Musharaf meeting at Havana (Cuba) was a total sell-out. Prime Minister has undoubtedly surrendered,'' BJP spokesman and Vice-President Hari Om told reporters here.

''Has Pakistan's policy changed? Has it agreed to handover PoK and Gilgit-Baltistan to India or has it stopped training, arming, funding and sheltering terrorists?'' the spokesman asked.

He said Pakistan has scored ''a splendid diplomatic victory over ambivalent and confused foreign office''.

India has come out of the Havana meeting minus everything, he added.

The BJP, he said, wanted the Prime Minister to take the nation into confidence, and answer its questions before proceeding.

Mr singh and Pakistan President Pervez Musharraf had issued a joint statement after a meeting on the sidelines of a summit of Non-Aligned Movement (NAM) countries. The two leaders also agreed to set up a joint anti-terrorism institutional mechanism to identify and implement counter-terrorism initiatives and investigations.

But, Prof Om said, the BJP believes that the joint anti-terrorism institutional mechanism would only benefit Pakistan and enable it to carry on its anti-India activities with more ease.
