Over 3,000 voter ID-cards found in garbage heap, probe ordered

Varanasi, Sep 18 (UNI) A high-level probe headed by Chief Development Officer (CDO) has been ordered into last evening's recovery of over 3,000 voter ID cards from a garbage heap in the Dashwashamedh area here.

Additional District Magistrate (City) Indra Vikram Singh told UNI here today that over 3,000 voter-ID cards, all issued by Election Commission in 1995 were recovered from a heap of garbage in Dashwashamedh area here last evening. Most of the recovered ID-cards belonged to voters from the Varanasi (South) assembly constituency, followed by those from Varanasi (North) and Varanasi (Cantt) seats.

The ID-cards concerned were immediately taken into possession and staff is now engaged in counting their exact number followed by their distribution among the voters.

Taking serious note of the matter, a probe headed by Chief Development Officer P K Agrawal has been ordered into the shocking recovery of the cards from the garbage heap, Mr Singh added.
