No shortage of power during 2010 Commonwealth Games: Shinde

New Delhi, Sep 18 (UNI) Union Minister for Power Sushil Kumar Shinde today assured that Delhi would not be allowed to face any shortage of power for the 2010 Commonwealth games.

''We are fully prepared to meet the power needs for the Commonwealth Games. About 5200 MW of power will be made available for Delhi from the Damodar Valley corporation and the National Thermal Power Corporation in the next three years. In addition, Delhi and Haryana have jointly agreed to set up a 1500 MW coal plant, out of which 750 MW power will be available for Delhi,''Mr Shinde said during a function where Congress president Sonia Gandhi dedicated to the nation the Sonia Vihar water treatment plant.

He said 600 MW power from Tehri Hydroelectric plant could also be used by Delhi whenever it had the requirement.

Mr Shinde congratulated Mrs Sheila Dikshit on the commissioning of the Sonia Vihar WTP which he described as a significant step in direction of meeting water shortage in Delhi.
