Nitish ridicules Lalu's claim for better performance of railway

Patna, Sep 18 (UNI) Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar today ridiculed Railway Minister Lalu Prasad for his claim that he had turned around Indian Railways into a profit-making unit and said the foundation was laid during his tenure as Railway Minister.

Talking to reporters here, Mr Kumar said Mr Prasad should focus on his work instead of rushing for propaganda through newspapers highlighting his achievements.

He said Mr Prasad might succeed in projecting his performance out of proportion elsewhere but he would find it hard to convince the people of Bihar.

He said number of rail accidents had decreased during the NDA regime at the Centre when he was Railway Minister and several steps were taken to augment the profit of the railway. " An honest assessment by the experts of railways would make it clear that what important steps of far reaching effects were taken by him as Raliway Minister during the NDA rule at the Centre, " he maintained.

" I have nothing to comment on what Mr Prasad said in his lecture in Indian Institute of Management, Ahmedamad, as people are aware of realities, " he quipped.
