MES' parallel convention: Appropriate action soon: Kumaraswamy
Mysore, Sep 18 (UNI) Karnataka Chief Minister H D Kumaraswamy today said the Government will take a decision at an appropriate time according to law on the parallel convention organised by the Maharashtra Ekikiran Samithi in Belgaum to coincide with the commencement of the Legislature session there on September 25.
Speaking to newspersons at Bohedepura near here, he said the residents of Belgaum would not support the parallel convention. He declined to comment on the charge that the Opposition Congress was instigating such parallel conventions.
Mr Kumaraswamy requested the Union Government not to take any hasty decision on the border issue between Karnataka and Maharashtra involving Belgaum. One should understand the sentiments of the residents of Belgaum, he said, exuding confidence that he would be able to win the love and affection of the people of Belgaum, which he had visited several times.
On the proposed ban on the sale of arrack in the State, he said the matter would be discussed in the Coordination Committee of the coalition partners soon.
Charging the Congress with attempting to topple his Government, Mr Kumaraswamy accused former Deputy Chief Minister and Congress leader Siddaramiah of switching loyalties from the JD(S) to the Congress with an eye on power and indulging in false propaganda against his family.
The Chief Minister held a meeting with officials regarding preparations for the coming Dasara festivities and instructed them to take up works on a war footing. All necessary works should be completed before the festivities began on September 23, he directed.
Later, he laid the foundation stone for community halls at various places in the district, including Udubur village, where Mr Siddaramiah was recently stalled from doing the honours.
